Air Command International started in 1979 and has been manufacturing build-to-fly gyroplane kits ever since. The company's first flight was in 1984. The rotorcraft kit is a recreational vehicle.
With over 2,500 of its production rotorcraft operating worldwide, the company is one of the oldest gyroplane kit manufacturers in business today.

Skywheels quickly became the leading rotor system for kit-built and experimental gyroplanes, and was perfectly paired with Air Command gyroplanes. Nearly 3,000 blade-sets were delivered from 1984 until 2001.
In 2018, Air Command affiliated company, Skywheels, LLC, acquired the original tooling, test equipment and intellectual property to again produce 23 to 31-foot blade systems to benefit sport flying.
